Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
Information entered into a search tool, such as a name or case number, is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and returns any result through its service. We do not keep a separate log of the search terms entered here.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you choose to send an email, we retain the message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, server and analytics systems may receive technical information about the visit, including:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device that help show which pages receive traffic and how visitors move through the site. Analytics services aggregate that usage information. Browser settings can block cookies, although doing so may affect how parts of the site function.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, maintaining, and improving page performance
- Sending a search request to the partner service that processes it
- Understanding which reference pages visitors use
- Identifying and resolving technical problems
- Displaying advertising that may be relevant to visitor interests
No Court-Record Data on File
This site does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case records. It publishes general routing information for Jefferson County records and the courts or clerks that maintain them. Trial-level searches use local systems, including Jefferson County eServices and Steubenville Court Connect; Ohio has no single statewide portal for Jefferson County trial cases. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and it does not assemble visitor information into consumer reports or third-party records.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes used on some pages. Information entered into those tools is governed by the provider’s privacy policy, retention practices, and sharing practices, rather than this policy. We do not control those practices, so review the provider’s policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
The site links to clerk pages, local trial-court portals, Ohio court resources, and third-party search tools. Following one of those links takes you to a separate service governed by that service’s privacy policy. Review that policy before providing personal information.
Some advertising partners may track activity across websites for interest-based advertising. That tracking occurs on their systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Information may be shared with the following categories of recipients:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard practices intended to protect collected information. Internet-based systems cannot be made completely secure, however, and no assurance can be made that a security incident will never occur.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If we learn that a minor has provided personal information, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Ohio law may provide additional rights concerning personal information. Court-record access in Jefferson County is governed by Ohio Rules of Superintendence 44 through 47; the Ohio Public Records Act, Ohio Revised Code 149.43, governs public-office records where applicable, alongside the court-record rules and the relevant custodian. At a minimum, you may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this privacy policy. A revised version will appear on this page with a new effective date.
